Learn more about how to get involved:

  • In addition to the beauty they bring to any city, a neighborhood of trees can be 10° cooler than one without any. Trees are a critical source for life, providing the oxygen we breathe, absorbing significant amounts of carbon which lessens potential damage and disruption caused by climate change, as well as providing additional ecosystem services.

Our program will focus on planting 400 native trees in Gloucester; locating and documenting the oldest trees in the city; and educating adults and children about the value of trees to the city and our local ecosystem.

  • We're committed to planting 400+ trees in across the city! Through a partnership with the city of Gloucester, we'll have 200 new trees in our parks, forests and public spaces. The remaining 200+ trees will be planted by Cape Ann Elms , 100 Trees Project and Biomimicry New England.

  • Identifying and mapping the oldest trees in Gloucester is an important part of 400 Trees! In collaboration with Sawyer Free Library and Cape Ann YMCA, 400 Trees incorporates lessons on locating and identifying the oldest trees into our educational programming. We use Treekeeper software to map the trees in Gloucester!

  • Our team runs pilot projects with partners at the Cape Ann YMCA and Gloucester Schools to educate youth about the importance of trees. We've hosted tree days at Camp Spindrift, planted trees at Plum Cove and O'Maley Schools and run an afterschool Dirt Club at Plum Cove and Beeman school in partnership with the Cape Ann YMCA!
